The science of the art of capoeira

Combo: Parafuso into Mortal Americano

Your rating: None Average: 4.6 (14 votes)

This is a great combination of capoeira moves that I hadn't seen before, or since. The crazy man lands his Parafuso and jumps high, twisting into a somersault. It's right in the game - performed between his partner's kicks and very individual. Parafuso is known as a '540' in XMA and a 'whirlwind kick' in kung-fu. Meanwhile Bahian capoeiristas call Mortal Americano a 'Bacardi' and gymnasts know it as an 'Arabian'. Parafuso means - screw, Mortal means - somersault (within capoeira, normally it actually means deadly).

RE: "in america we love this"
I think you should speak for yourself and not america

"we never new (sic) that black people had their own fighting style"
again you refer to 'we' but many americans understand that 'black people' - meaning people of african descent, come from civilisations older than your own with their own cultures encompassing literature, history, music, fighting etc

indeed the human animals is so predisposed towards war you would be hard pressed to find a culture from any part of the world that did not have its own fighting art of some kind.

i really don't think you meant to come off bad but in a certain light a comment like that can make you sound ignorant, rather than somehow misinformed. if you really didn't realise, then exciting times are ahead for you and i wish you the best in your journey of discovery. i'm not an expert in African fighting arts or indeed African culture. If anyone reading this is, perhaps they can recommend a few good books for skullking to get his appetite whetted.
