WELCOME TO THE NEW LAUNCH

capoeira-relaunch2.jpg

Welcome to the new Capoeira Science. More than a new look, this is next-level website functionality that merits the word science. A product of love, learning, dedication and mid-term insomnia. Sorry there isn't much in the way of new content, the first thing was to get the site up and running. It's been very hard work!! New content is coming now basically.

THE PAST: With videos that stood out from the crowd Capoeira Science has climbed to the top of the ratings maxing out at 350,000 views per month on YouTube and netting 9 million views to date. It occupies top 10 google rankings for multiple capoeira related phrases, and is #1 for capoeira videos.

THE PRESENT: You and me. UGC. Stop the big corporations getting ALL the money from advertising and our own initiatives, let’s pump it back into capoeira. You won’t have to put up with the haters any longer. Come on in comment, rate, feedback. Do it here. Tell me what you want. Give the capoeristas on here what they deserve. This is the holy trinity, the magic number. Me, you and capoeirascience. Whoever we are, wherever we are.

THE FUTURE: More video content, more articles, more functionality, user areas, school lists, maps, it’s all coming this way. This is going to be expensive so it will be driven by advertising, rather than subscriptions. I hope it works. WATCH THE ADVERTS when they come. They bring free-ness to all content. I think we can do something here… now get back into the present and watch something!! don’t forget to rate it ;-)

Ladja Video

No votes yet

This video shows an art form today known as the Ladja or Danmye (previously entitled the Ag'Ya) of Martinique. Two combatants engage each other in a game of trickery, skill and acrobatic agility. At the head of the circle musicians control the tempo of the contest singing, playing drums and possibly other instruments of African origin (it's hard to see). Could this far-away Caribbean lookalike be a long-lost capoeira cousin? Does this offer us clues as to Capoeira's African origins? The similarity is nothing but striking!

Folha Seca Helicoptero

Yikes!! Super advanced capoeira move. At the time I hadn't seen this particular variation of Folha Seca Parafuso before and back in 2007 I didn't really understand it. Now I do...

Combo: Parafuso into Mortal Americano

Your rating: None Average: 5 (4 votes)
A flying spinning capoeira kick called Parafuso leads straight into a twisting somersault known as a Mortal Americano. nice.

Piao de Mao

Your rating: None Average: 4.2 (5 votes)
Getting a good Pião de Mao (handpsin) relies on a strong clean handstand and knowing what to do with the heel of your hand.

Butterfly twist

Your rating: None Average: 4.8 (5 votes)
Butterfly twist is cientista's favourite acrobatic capoeira move. This sweet spinning matrix style move orignates from Kung-Fu and those guys do a lot of variations, into splits, 540 falling onto your front and even doubles - while wielding swords, poles or spinning metal chains.

Backflip

Your rating: None Average: 3.7 (6 votes)
This capoeira classic is also known as Palhaco, Xango, Pulo do gato [jump of the cat] and of course back-flip, flick, flic-flacs etc.

Au Sem Mao

Your rating: None Average: 4.3 (6 votes)
If you are into capoeira acrobatics then you should probably start with an Au Sem Mão.

Volta ao Mundo

Your rating: None Average: 5 (2 votes)
This is the aerial, hands-free capoeira version of volta ao mundo - called tinsika in gymnastics. It is basically a cartwheel where you twist your body 90 degress to come out facing front, arching your back as you do so.

mestre-suassuna-e dirceu.jpeg

The two albums here are long standing classics from two of the most published musicians in the capoeira world - Mestre Suassuna, founder of Cordão de Ouro and Mestre Acordeon, an original student of Mestre Bimba. They both contain absolutely beautiful songs.
Enjoy!
